Come scrapbook with Ali Edwards, myself and many many more.....

I am so excited to jump into this adventure next week. Ali is taking us all on an adventure to discover our lives for one week. To get pictures of it. To write about it. To put it together to keep as a treasure. Please go to Ali's blog and read all about it and JOIN US!!! I will post where I am at with it daily starting Monday. Leave comments here and let us know how you are doing on it and any highlights or ideas you have for it.

With the passing of Aleida I am so into the idea of us all doing these kind of projects. We need to make sure we leave behind these treasures about ourselves to our loved ones.

Leave me a note here if you plan to join us on this venture!!

The brick and mortar store is going super. I am having lots of fun meeting scrappers in person. We are adding more and more classes and bringing in new product weekly. Stop by and see us if you are in the area!!

Have a fun weekend,
Stacey

Why we must scrapbook.... With such sadness I write this blog...

It brings me great sadness to tell you all that our dear blogland friend Aleida Franklin was involved in a tragic car accident and has passed away. This was taken from the Studio Calico board where she was a valued member...

Only met her through my computer but wow did I like her. She had such a zest for life. I loved her spunk. Her talent was beyond amazing. Her love for her family could be felt 1000's of miles away. I am so sad that this has happened to her and her family. While thinking about this with great sadness it reminded me why we MUST scrapbook!! What a treasure Aleida left for her children and family. I am making a vow in honor of Aleida to work on my pages! To get my words written out. To document our lives. I also will get back to work on my " Book of Me"
Aleida is a friend and customer I will dearly miss. My heart, love and prayers go out to her family.

Joanna Campbell Slan
Although I was born in Jacksonville, Florida, I grew up on the banks of the Wabash River in Vincennes, Indiana. Since it was a tiny community, I could walk the thirteen blocks to our local library. I'd come back with arms full of books which I would start reading on my way home. (I wouldn't recommend that. I tripped a lot. I still have scars on my knees.)
My two favorites were A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and Jane Eyre. Since my dad was an alcoholic, I needed assurance that I could escape my beginnings. These books saved my life and gave me hope.
Which is why I wanted to be a writer. I wanted to tell stories that could change people's lives. At the very least, I hoped what I wrote would help people through the dark times...just like Betty Smith and Charlotte Bronte helped me.
This fall I'm reaching a personal goal. Paper, Scissors, Death, the first book in my Kiki Lowenstein Scrapbooking Mystery series, will debut September, 2008, from Midnight Ink. (Of course, I have also written ten non-fiction books, but there's something REALLY special about fiction.)
I love writing. I mean, I actually enjoy the process. I have worn nine letters off my keyboard. No one in my family can use it but me. Next to writing and reading, my favorite things have always been animals and crafts. Growing up, my dog Lady was my best friend. I also spent many happy hours lost in the joy of making "stuff." Back then I was armed with scissors, crayons and paste. Now I have all sorts of wonderful scrapbook supplies. It's true, you know: You can never have too much paper!
I'm a happily married wife and a mother. My husband is David Slan, owner of Steinway Piano Gallery and a semi-pro poker player. Our son Michael is a senior in high school. We live outside of St. Louis with our two dogs, Victoria and Rafferty. You can always email me at mailto:joannaslan@aol.com?Subject=Visited%20Your%20Website. Just make sure the subject line says something like "visited your website."

If you love scrapbooking and papercrafting and if you enjoy a good book, you’ll probably like

Paper, Scissors, Death:
A Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft Mystery. It’s my newest book and it’s a scrapbooking mystery, although you don’t have to be a scrapbooker to enjoy it.
Paper, Scissors, Death tells the story of mousy housewife Kiki Lowenstein. She has two great loves in her life: scrapbooking and her eleven-year-old daughter Anya. When her husband George turns up dead in a hotel room, Kiki refuses to accept his death was an accident. To make ends meet, Kiki must get a job at Time in a Bottle, St. Louis’s premier scrapbook store. She figures it’s the perfect place to snoop around. After all, she’s a mom, and moms are invisible, right? Kiki vows to track down her husband’s killer—and along the way, she uncovers George’s sordid secret life. Worse yet, the murderer is wise to Kiki. Finding out who caused George’s death might cost Kiki her daughter and her life.

Sprinkled throughout the book are scrapbooking tips. Since I’ve been scrapbooking since 1998, I trotted out many of my best ideas!

As a special bonus, at the end of the book there’s a coupon for 50 free digital prints from Snapfish. And if you buy it from Amazon, it’s a super bargain. Okay, 50 prints at 30¢ each is $15, and Amazon has priced the book at $10.17, so you can put that extra savings into…MORE PAPER!

Remember those Calgon commercials? “Calgon, take me away?” Books have always been more effective than bubble baths for me. Each day as I sat down to write about Kiki, I forgot about all my own troubles. My dog, Rafferty, would tug on my sleeve around 5 o’clock to tell me it was quitting time.

I hope Paper, Scissors, Death does the same for you! To order your copy, go HERE. To read a preview of the book, with recipes and a “how to” for making a small album, go to http://www.joannaslan.com/.
